The 2012 GranTurismo Sport, the revised version of Maserati's beautiful 2+2 Coupé, utilizes a 4.7-liter V8 engine and positions itself between the regular GT and the hardcore MC Stradale, replacing the GranTurismo S. The Sport is available with a six-speed ZF automatic with torque converter or Maserati's six-speed single-clutch robotic gearbox.
Through modifications to the pistons, valve timing, and the engine ECU, Maserati managed to squeeze an extra 21 hp and 34 Nm out of the (Ferrari-built) 4.7-liter engine. The chassis has also been subtly modified, featuring a 12 percent stiffer rear anti-roll bar and revised software for the (now standard) Sport Skyhook dampers, which are 10 percent stiffer than before in sport mode. The brakes feature different (and lighter) discs front and rear, finished with new aluminium calipers (six-piston front, four-piston rear). The torque converter shift times have been drastically reduced, from 400 ms to 200 ms when the sport button is pressed.
