The Saleen S7 is an American, hand-built, high-performance sports car designed and built by the American automaker Saleen Automotive, Inc. The design, direction, and engine were jointly developed by Steve Saleen, who was responsible for the initial concept, direction, and engine.
It was the first car produced entirely by Saleen itself and became the sixth American mid-engine sports car to enter series production, following the Pontiac Fiero, Consulier GTP, Mosler Raptor, Vector W8, and M12.
The all-aluminum engine is a proprietary design, developed and built in-house. It is a bored-out and lengthened variant of Ford's 351 Windsor small block, featuring Cleveland-style cone-valve cylinder heads that have been extensively reworked and modified.
