source: onlygoodnewsdaily.comThe idea for Electric tuk-tuk originated with students at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands (Dutch: Technische Universiteit Delft). They saw hundreds of polluting tuk-tuks driving through the streets of Bangkok and thought: something needs to be done about this. They brought electric three-wheelers to market. This has proven to be a global success. They are now used throughout Asia, North and South America, and Europe.
The first electric tuk-tuk was designed for the tourist market, explains Jeroen Bulk, CEO of E-Tuk Factory. “In Asian countries such as Thailand and Cambodia, many tuk-tuks serve as taxis. Tourists make eager use of them. In addition, there are many taxi vans serving the local population. However, these vehicles are old and run on fossil fuels. This causes a lot of air pollution, especially in large cities such as Bangkok.”

The Utrecht-based company designed the E-Tuk as an electric tuk-tuk. This model emits no polluting exhaust fumes. Depending on conditions, a single battery charge provides a range of 100 to 130 kilometers. The E-Tuk Factory vehicle saves approximately 3.5 tons of CO2 annually.
RETAIL
To reduce its reliance on tourism, the Utrecht-based startup will soon be launching the SmarTuk. This is an E-Tuk designed for the retail sector. “It’s intended for transporting goods within cities—last-mile delivery,” he explains. The design of the tuk-tuks is modular. That means the underframe is always the same. On top of that, various body styles are possible. We have the pickup, which consists of an open bed and is suitable for landscapers, for example. The cargo model is a large, enclosed box and ideal for package delivery. Yet another type of E-Tuk can serve as a food truck.

To be able to deliver all electric tuk-tuks next year, production is being scaled up significantly. This requires capital. To raise the necessary funds, E⁃Tuk Factory has launched a crowdfunding campaign through Invesdors. The target amount is 2 million euros. “We know there is demand for our product. Now we want to scale up. Whereas we previously built up to 300 vehicles per year, we will soon be building up to 300 per month.”
