What are Socket Weld Fittings?

Socket weld fittings are fittings where a pipe is inserted into a recessed area of the fitting. Unlike buttweld fittings, Socket Weld fittings are primarily used for small pipe diameters; generally for pipelines whose nominal diameter is NPS 2 or smaller.
