What is single random length and double random length of pipe?

Steel pipes are produced in two lengths: single random lengths (SRL) and double random lengths (DRL).

When long runs are considered, such as on a pipe rack, DRL tubes are preferred because fewer field welds are required. Individual random lengths are otherwise considered acceptable for piping in installations.
