ASTM A105 Flange Material Specification

ASTM‎‏ A105 covers wrought carbon steel piping components for use in ambient and elevated temperatures in pressurized systems. This includes flanges, fittings, valves and similar parts.

Forgings made to this specification have a maximum weight of 4540kg (10,000lb). Larger forgings may be ordered to specification ASTM‎‏ A266.

ASTM A105 specification does not apply to raw materials used for the production of round bars and seamless tubes for piping components.

ASTM A105 Valves

Heat Treatment

Heat treatment is not a mandatory requirement for ASTM A105 piping components. However, there are some exceptions: ASME B16.5 flanges Class 400, 900, 1500, 2500; Special design flanges where the design pressure at the design temperature exceeds the pressure-temperature classifications of Class 300; Special design flanges where the design pressure or temperature is not known; Forged fittings or valve parts over NPS 4 and Class‎‏ 300.
