Flow Direction in a Reducing Tee

If the main flow passes through the reduced section of the reducing tee instead of through the main section, the branch can cause severe turbulence at the transition to the narrower section.

Erosion of the branch, vibrations, and an excessive pressure drop can then lead to undesirable results.

Therefore, ensure that the main flow is always directed through the main section of the reducing tee and not through the reduced section.
