Crotch thickness of Butt Weld TEE fittings

For a Tee fitting, wall thickness can be a critical factor. ASME B16.9 standardizes a number of important dimensions but not that of the “Crotch” thickness

Many suppliers of welded tees (and elbows) provide a wall thickness that is one schedule thicker, ensuring sufficient wall thickness remains after forming.

For tees, the crotch thickness (T) varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, but some specify that it must be 1.3 times the wall thickness to maintain the Crotch thickness.
