Why are pressure gauges filled with liquid?

Pressure gauges are filled with a fluid (typically glycerin or silicone oil) to dampen vibrations and pressure fluctuations, thus stabilizing the pointer. This fluid acts as a cushion, protecting internal mechanisms from wear, preventing material fatigue, continuously lubricating moving parts, and preventing condensation inside the gauge in harsh environments.
