Throttling a Ball Valve

Standard ball valves are designed for complete shut off (“on/off”) and are generally not recommended for throttling. Partially opening a standard ball valve forces the fluid through a crescent shaped gap, increasing the flow velocity and causing turbulent flow (“wire pulling”) and rapid wear of the valve's soft seals.
