What is meant by the Chunnel between the United Kingdom and France?

Started in 1987 and completed in 1994, the Eurotunnel, more popularly known as the Chunnel, is one of the most challenging civil engineering projects of the 20th century. The tunnel linking Folkestone, Kent, in the United Kingdom, with Coquelles, near Calais in northern France.
