What is the difference between TIG and GTAW welding?

GTAW welding and TIG welding are one and the same process; there is no technical difference in the way they are performed. GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) is the official designation of the American Welding Society (AWS), while TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) is the common, colloquial term for the same process.
